Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between OT and physiotherapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) and physiotherapy are both allied healthcare services that help people improve their ability to perform daily activities, recover from injuries, and maintain or enhance their overall physical health and function.
A few key features that differ between the two include:
Occupational Therapy (OT): Occupational therapists help individuals develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. Their primary focus is on enabling people to participate in meaningful lifestyle and professional activities that are important to them, such as self-care, work, or past-times. This can mean helping clients learn new ways to perform daily tasks, modifying their environments or equipment, developing strategies to compensate for injuries or impairments, or promoting healthy habits and routines.
Physiotherapy (Physio): Physiotherapists focus on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiorespiratory challenges. Their primary goal is to restore or improve an individual’s movement and function, reduce pain, and prevent future injuries through manual therapy, exercise, therapeutics (like heat, cold, or electrical stimulation), and patient education.
What is unique about occupational therapy?
Is occupational therapy covered by Medicare in Australia?
What is the commonly used assessment in OT?
Our experienced OTs rely on a number of different assessments to determine each individual’s abilities, needs, and challenges both in the workplace and at home.
Among some of the most common assessments used in the clinic, our team may rely on: COPM, AMPS, MOHOST and functional musculoskeletal evaluations—all of which are industry leading practices—to better understand an individual’s level of performance, function, and overall wellness.
